Hailed as the next Stieg Larsson, Jo Nesbo spins a tale of drama and death with a sprinkle of mystery. When I started reading this book, it did send chills down the spine, few scenes just come to life. The story is told in a non-linear fashion, with reader being taken back and forth in time to the next bit of the jig-saw puzzle. The writing is smooth and the mystery "un"putdownable.
Preview:
2004,Norway, a serial killer is on a spree, his targets mid-aged mothers, his motive is their betrayal and his MO is to make them disappear, Inspector Harry Hole would need to track this mad man before he performs the vanishing act on Hole's ex.
What Works:
The narrative style and the story in story approach, keep the readers engrossed, there are several suspects and each of them with a solid motive. Each instance is a clue and nothing can be ignored.
Let Down:
I could finish the jig-saw before the deadline! but it was interesting to know how and why.
Fast Five:
1. Next Stieg Larsson ? well, Not yet
2. Characters seem real
3. Simple story told boldy
4. First time I learnt about "Curling" as a sport
5. Bone Chilling scenes
P.S: This is the first time I have read any of Jo Nesbo's works.
